Author, humorist to speak at Skiff

To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Skiff Medical Center is presenting an evening with humorist and author Christine Clifford. “Laughter — It’s Good Medicine, An Evening of Hope, Laughter and Positive Thinking,” will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Skiff Medical Center’s Inservice Room.

The event is free to the public, but organizers request those attending call (641) 787-3070 to confirm a registration.

Clifford had cracked the “glass ceiling” before her bout with breast cancer. By age 40, she was senior executive vice-president for The SPAR Group, an international information and merchandising services firm in New York.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994, she wrote a humorous portrayal of her story in a book, “Not Now ... I’m Having a No Hair Day!” The book was nominated for Best Motivational Book of 1996 and Best First Book by the Books for a Better Life Awards, as well as several other awards.

Clifford went on to write several more books and has been a contributing editor to the “Chicken Soup” books. She is a member of the National Speakers Association, the National Speakers Association, Minnesota Chapter, the American Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor and the National Association of Breast Cancer Organizations.
