Skiff posts positive numbers for August

The month of August was a good one for Skiff Medical Center. Chief Financial Officer Mike Anderson told the Skiff Board of Trustees at its regular meeting Wednesday that some key numbers were up during August.

“Although inpatient admissions were flat, patient days were up 163 percent over the prior year,” Anderson said. “And swing bed days were up 183 percent. It was a much fuller hospital than we’ve had in a long time.”

In addition, outpatient visits were at 7,000 for August, the highest number for the hospital ever.

“I like the trend we’re on,” Anderson said.

All of this adds up to patient service revenue of $7 million, with a total revenue over expenses for August at $127,000. Still, the year to date loss for the hospital stands at $109,000, compared to a loss of $543,000 for August 2011.

Skiff CEO Steve Long said a big problem for the hospital remains the drastic drop in reimbursement rates for commercial suppliers. Wellmark has dropped its reimbursement rate by 20 percent, Long said.
