National Society of the Daughters
of the American Revolution
The southeast district meeting of the Iowa Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was on Friday, Sept. 21, at the American Legion hall in Newton and hosted by the Grinnell Chapter of NSDAR.
Kris Macy, retired Army Reserves and Grinnell Chapter DAR member, presented the colors. The meeting was led by Southeast District Director Julie Davis. After the invocation, Pledge of Allegiance, American Creed and National Anthem, a welcome was given by Grinnell Chapter Regent Darlene Leib.
The purpose of the meeting was to present organizational information from each of the state officers and committee chairs.
State Regent Barbara Halpin reported the 100 year-old DAR Library lay lights at DAR Headquarters in Washington, D.C., has become seriously deteriorated and requires extensive and immediate restoration. The ornate design, which includes 25 individual glass frames, each measuring approximately 8-by-9 feet, allows natural light to fill the library. The cost of restoring one glass frame is $40,000. Iowa DAR has approved the raising of $20,000 to pay for one-half the cost of one glass frame.
Roll call found DAR chapters from the following cities: Ames, Boone, Burlington, Council Bluffs, Creston, Davenport, Des Moines, Grinnell, Iowa City, Knoxville, Marion, Marshalltown, Mt. Pleasant, Nevada, Newton, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Shenandoah and Tipton.
The meeting closed with a benediction and retiring the colors.
