Emeron Dettmann

Emeron Paul Dettmann, the son of Paul and Kate Gessman Dettmann, was born June 20, 1918, at the family home southeast of Mapleton, Iowa.

He was a graduate of the Mapleton Consolidated schools, class of 1936, and later received his degree and master’s from Iowa State University in Ames. Emeron had served his country with the 803rd Field Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army, during World War II. He came back home to teach vocational agriculture at Newton Senior High School for 20-plus years and then worked with the Department of Education as a consultant on the state career education staff. He retired in 1983.

On Sept. 9, 1946, Emeron was united in marriage with Helen Maxine Patrick at the St. John’s Methodist Church in Mapleton. A longtime resident of the Newton area, he had devoted his life to his family and friends. He was a longtime adult class Sunday school teacher as a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church and of the Newton First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Iowa Rose Society, Toastmasters and multiple organizations related to FFA on the state and local levels.  He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him and by all his Vo-Ag students.
