Landwehr, Straube named Senior CLASS candidates

AMES (ISU) — Cyclones Alison Landwehr and Jamie Straube are two of 30 volleyball candidates for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Thursday. The Iowa State standouts are the only candidates from the Big 12 Conference.

A native of St. Louis, Mo., Landwehr has led Iowa State’s 5-1 offense since 2010, collecting 3,007 assists in two-plus seasons as the Cyclones’ starting setter, one of only three Cyclones to ever reach the 3,000 assists mark. In 2011, Landwehr earned AVCA All-America First Team honors for her work on the court as well as an Academic All-Big 12 First Team nod. Landwehr has been busy away from the classroom and court as well, involved in community service projects including Kids’ Clinic, Dr. Seuss Day at Gilbert Elementary, Carnival at Fellows Elementary, flood recovery and children’s hospital visits.

“[Alison] is the ideal teammate,” head Iowa State coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. “She’s very respectful, encouraging, positive and works extremely hard. She has put in so many extra hours of setter training to get to where she is now as a player.”
