More details released on pit bull shooting

Some residents have wondered about the role of the Jasper County Animal Rescue League in the shooting of the pit bull owned by Jeri Fahrenkrug Saturday morning in Newton.

JCARL Facilities Manager Teena Wolodkewitsch said Jasper County Dispatch received a call concerning the dog at large and threatening someone at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, and at 10:12 a.m. the call was made to the rescue league to respond.

Animal Control Officer Jill Harter arrived on scene a few minutes later, but the police officers at the scene had lost sight of the dog. Shortly after, Harter received a call from dispatch indicating the dog was at its home and that it had been shot and had died from its wounds.
