Crops improve little from recent rains, USDA says

The recent rains in the past week apparently have had little effect on the condition of the corn and soybean crop, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service’s Iowa Field Office.

Thirteen percent of the state’s corn crop is now mature, nearly three weeks ahead of normal. Corn conditions across the state are rated as 53 percent poor or very poor, and only 15 percent good to excellent.

Soybeans are rated as 38 percent poor or very poor, with 25 percent of the crop rated as good to excellent.
