Tigerhawks done in by slow second half, fall 58-28
COLFAX — Although inexperience may be the Colfax-Mingo football team’s biggest challenge throughout the season, it was an energy shortage that did it in during Friday’s season opener.
The Tigerhawks (0-1) kept pace with East Marshall and trailed just 20-14 at halftime, but the Mustangs’ dedicated ground attack was too much in the second and ultimately yielded a 58-28 victory in a Week 0 matchup.
“We’re an awfully young team with little varsity experience, and they returned 17 starters,” C-M coach Mike Rupert said. “I think a lot of it is there were times where we needed to make plays, but we didn’t make plays. I’m disappointed in losing, but I don’t think the kids quit, so that’s the key.”
