Mustangs hold off R-S in final seconds, win 27-26

It may have gone as close to the wire as a game can get, but Friday night still ended with a victory for the Prairie City-Monroe football team.

After giving up a touchdown with just seconds left, the Mustangs (1-0) forced an interception on the potential game-winning two-point conversion to earn a 27-26 road victory over Roland-Story in the teams’ season opener.

Senior quarterback Nate Vande Wall threw for 239 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the victory, distributing the ball to five different receivers in his 20 completions. Junior Zach Uhlenhopp led the team with 85 yards on seven catches, but it was senior Ethan Kain that snagged two touchdowns on his seven catches for 67 yards.
