You can’t burn that
At tonight’s Newton City Council meeting, councilors will again take up revisions to the city’s “Solid Waste Control” ordinances with regard to open burning within the city limits.
The issue was first brought to the city council by concerned citizens in June. At that time, councilors instructed Newton Fire Department to look into the city’s burning regulations, and to recommend changes.
Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik and Fire Marshal Mike Knoll presented councilors with a number of changes at their July 16 regular meeting. At the time, there was a lengthy discussion and questions about the consequences the proposed changes may have on the community.
