Council faces full plate on tonight’s agenda

The Newton City Council faces a full plate of issues when it goes into regular session tonight at 6 p.m. in the Newton City Hall Council Chambers.

Councilors will address the second reading of a resolution that would propose several changes to the city’s burning ordinances. The resolution would create a permitting process for the burning of landscape waste, while restricting the types and locations of recreational fires within the city limits.

The City Council also will consider a request to support the Newton Historic Preservation Commission’s efforts to get the Downtown District on the National Register of Historic Places. Being on the National Register would create a number of new funding mechanisms for improvements in the downtown area.
