Chicago Cubs select
I-Cubs’ pitcher Bowden

LAS VEGAS (I-Cubs) — The Chicago Cubs selected RHP Michael Bowden from Iowa and optioned LH Brooks Raley to Triple-A. The organization also signed free agent RHP Seth McClung and assigned him to Iowa.

Bowden starts his second stint with Chicago this season, and was available Monday night against the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field. The former first round draft pick is 3-2 with two saves and a 2.76 ERA (10 ER/32.2 IP) in 23 relief appearances for the I-Cubs on the year. Bowden has only allowed one run in his last 8.1 innings pitched (five appearances) with Iowa.

The 25-year-old was acquired by the Cubs from the Red Sox in exchange for OF Marlon Byrd on April 21. Bowden had no record and a 7.45 ERA (8 ER/9.2 IP) in 10 relief appearances for Chicago before being optioned to Iowa on June 7.
