Experienced Cards have improvement, state in sight

After featuring just one senior last season, the Newton boys golf team will begin its new campaign with a different look and much more experience.

With mainstays in Austin and Devin Shores, Bobby Dowling and Tyler McAnally, as well as five seniors returning overall, the Cardinals are hoping for a jump in the standings and maybe even an appearance at the big meet at the end of the season.

“I see us being a lot more competitive in every tournament,” Newton coach Pat Riley said. “The guys that were role players last year have really improved their game and come a long way. We need our 3-6 guys to step up and play the golf that I know they can.”
