Pedestrian removing debris from roadway killed in interstate crash

A 23-year-old Des Moines man who was removing roadway debris Wednesday afternoon was killed during a two-car accident at the 151 mile marker on Interstate 80.

Adam J. Baumert was transported to Des Moines by ambulance after a Dodge Ram pickup driven by 24-year-old Steven G. Hall of Atlantic rear-ended the vehicle of 29-year-old Kathleen Eckert of Newton, causing her to strike the pedestrian. The accident was near the Jasper County line.

The report filed by the Iowa State Patrol does not indicate whether Baumert was reported dead at the scene following the 1:05 p.m. accident or at a Des Moines Hospital. The crash still was under investigation this morning.
