Local twins win college savings

Twin brothers Adam and Luke Maharry won a $529 College Savings Iowa Account from the College Savings Iowa program at the HomeRun Readers Iowa Cubs game. The boys participated in the Newton Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, received free Iowa Cubs tickets to Sunday’s game and were winners of the drawing at the game. State Treasurer of Iowa Michael Fitzgerald presented the check to them during the game. More than 525 children participated in the library’s summer reading program this year, and participants received the Iowa Cubs tickets and celebrated with a pizza and pool party on Friday at Maytag Pool with pizza donated by Scott Creech of Domino’s. Readers also received a free frozen custard cone from Culver’s and a child’s admission ticket to the Blank Park Zoo.
