Local students complete Prairie City Police Department Youth Academy

The 2012 Prairie City Police Department Youth Academy participants were honored during a graduation ceremony on Saturday, July 28, at Prairie City Hall.

The students who participated in the academy spent three weeks learning about the law enforcement profession. Certificates of completion were given to Rebecca Berger, Dakota Braun, Mackenzie Bussan, Jordon DeVries, Hope Dupee, Taegen Hamer, Hayden Johnston, Jacob Ponder, James Preminger and Maddie Samson. A special certificate was given to James Preminger for attending the youth academy for three years and being named the class sergeant.

The PCPD Youth Academy began on July 14. On the first day, students learned about the roles of various agencies in the law enforcement profession, ethics in law enforcement, defensive tactics and learned about some of the law enforcement equipment that are used by police officers. They were given a presentation on weapon safety as well. Subway in Monroe provided lunch for the students.
