Annual Monroe Old Settlers celebration 
set for this weekend

Des Moines-based folk-rock band The Nadas are slated to headline the entertainment at the Monroe Old Settlers celebration this year. The band will take the stage on Saturday beginning at 8:30 p.m. Before that, however, there will be plenty of fun scheduled for the entire family.

Old Settlers gets under way on Friday evening with a childrens’ parade at 6 p.m. Water fights, night volleyball and wheelbarrow races also will be a part of the festivities, with the band BEN2K capping the evening on the bandstand.

On Saturday, a micro-marathon begins at 8 am., and other events include a tractor show, 3-on-3 basketball tourney, a money toss and a frog-jumping competition. Then, a watermelon feed is set for noon on the square, with a car show, a memorial service and a presentation by Steppin’ Out Dance Studio on the bandstand.
