Mildred Vander Hoek, 85, of Prairie City died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Pella Regional Health Center.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.  The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church or the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of Gerrit and Evelena (Van Ryswyk) Branderhorst, Mildred was born on March 24, 1927, near Prairie City. On Nov. 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to William Vander Hoek.  Mildred was a member at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Ladies Aid. Mildred was a devoted farm wife always ready to pitch in with what ever needed to be done. She and William enjoyed their vegetable garden and her time with her family.
