C. Ray Jones

A funeral service for C. Ray Jones of Newton will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at the Congregational United Church of Christ of Newton. Visitation with the family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, Tuesday, Aug. 7, day of the services. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials may be designated in C. Ray’s name to Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton or Park Centre Health Centre. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Charles Raymond “C. Ray” Jones, the son of Edgar Bascum and Luella Irene (Downs) Jones, was born June 25, 1913, in Mitchellville, Iowa. He attended school in Jasper County, and later took a LaSalle Correspondence Course in Accounting and Business.

On Oct. 12, 1933, C. Ray was united in marriage with Mary Evelyn Corrough in Mitchellville. A resident of the Newton area since 1929, C. Ray was employed by the Maytag Company in the Data Processing Department, retiring after 49.5 years. He devoted his life to his family, was a tour leader-at Maytag, a very active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Maytag Management Club and the Newton Masonic Lodge AM&AF #59.
