Three months to go, Jasper County backs GOP financially

In the 2008 presidential election, Jasper County went to the ticket of then-Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Joe Biden over Sen. John McCain and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

But with three months to go in the current presidential campaign, campaign contributions — the life blood of any national campaign — indicate the county may be changing its colors. The Republican Party and its candidates are out-raising the Democratic Party by a roughly 3-to-1 advantage.

According to filings by the Federal Election Commission, during the current campaign cycle so far, donations to Republicans from Jasper County total more than $21,500, while donations to Democrats total a little less than $7,200.
