Birdy K. Faidley

Birdy K. Faidley, 90, of rural Prairie City died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. 

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City with burial following at Waveland Cemetery.  Visitation was on Sunday, July 29, at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation or the Jasper County Historical Society. Birdy Kathryn Faidley was born in Leighton, Iowa on April 10, 1922.  She was the third of five children born to Tjebbe Durk and Anne (Kooyman) Beintema. She attended Leighton Grade School and graduated from Pella High School with the class of 1940.  She taught rural schools in Marion and Mahaska Counties. On May 6, 1944, she was united in marriage with Leland C. Faidley.  To this union four children were born:  Robert Leland, Verla Ann, April Joy, and Terry Durk. The family lived on a Century Farm southeast of Colfax. She was a member of the National Grange for over 50 years and held offices in local and state Granges.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, other crafts and traveling. Over many years, she donated hundreds of stuffed toys that she had made for charity.  Birdy was also a 4-H club leader and a member of the Golden Rule Women’s Club.
