Iowa Air National Guard units to conduct missions over select Iowa communities

The Iowa Air National Guard’s 132nd Fighter Wing, based in Des Moines, and 185th Air Refueling Wing from Sioux City will conduct flight training missions today and Friday over these Iowa communities and the immediate, surrounding areas: Ames, the Des Moines metro area, Iowa City-Cedar Rapids and Sioux City.

These units will operate over Iowa skies in order to provide realistic training for support of multi-faceted, overseas combat missions. Aircraft may be visible at lower altitudes and audible throughout the areas of operation on these days.

Iowa Air National Guard F-16 fighter aircraft from the 132nd Fighter Wing will be operating over Iowa airspace as part of their normal training operations. In addition, KC-135 tanker aircraft from the Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling will be conducting refueling operations with those F-16 fighter aircraft. At no time will anything be dropped from aircraft, nor will any hazardous activities take place.
