Evelyn Ferguson, 79, of Baxter passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at her home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the Baxter Community Center located at 203 South Main St., Baxter, Iowa. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation and will begin at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Evelyn was born on March 12, 1933, to Fritz and Annita (Goerke) Stubbe in Hamburg, Germany. On Dec. 13, 1958, she married Russell Ferguson in Lanstuhl, Germany. After the death of Russell, Evelyn moved to the United States and later became a U.S. citizen in 1969. She relocated to the Des Moines area and made it her home. She operated and owned a popular bar, Evelyn’s Highlander, in the Des Moines area for about seven years. In 1990, Evelyn moved to Baxter to help raise her granddaughter, Nicole. She enjoyed spending time with her family, planting flowers and gardening, attending garage sales and going antiquing.
