North 19th Avenue East closed for week

North 19th Avenue East will be closed through Saturday for the repair of the railroad crossing, according to Keith Laube of Newton Public Works.

The crossing, which is rough and in need of improvements, will be paid through funding from the Iowa Interstate Railroad, the state and the city. The designated detour will be along East Fifth Street North, North 15th Street East, East Eighth Street North, North 11th Avenue East and East 19th Street North.
