Medical board hearing for Twyner postponed again
A disciplinary hearing for Newton physician Dr. Lafayette J. Twyner has been postponed for a second time, according to a spokesperson from the Iowa Board of Medicine.
Board officials said that Twyner will face questioning 8:30 a.m. Aug. 16 at for allegedly prescribing “excessive controlled substances to numerous patients, including patients with known drug abuse histories.”
Twyner was initially supposed to see the board April 5, but the hearing was rescheduled for July 10 and 11. He currently is under a voluntary suspension of his license to prescribe narcotic medications following a series of incidents including the federal and Jasper County drug raid of his former Newton practice Urgent Care, in April 2011.
