Hawks routed 11-1 in season-ending loss

BELLE PLAINE — There were plenty of tears to go around for the Lynnville-Sully softball team on Monday night. The Hawks were just hoping they would come a week later.

Having made it to the state tournament the last two years, they expected a threepeat when they stepped onto the field for a Class 1A Regional Final against sixth-ranked Don Bosco. And riding a 20-game win streak, Lynnville-Sully’s momentum couldn’t have been stronger.

But the No. 7 Hawks (25-6) ran into a brick wall in pitcher Karli Welter and an explosive Dons’ offense on Monday as Don Bosco (28-6) ended Lynnville-Sully’s season with an 11-1 drubbing in Belle Plaine.
