PCM softball ends season with loss to Mid-Prairie

Coming off a big offensive victory in the first round of Class 3A regional play, the Prairie City-Monroe softball team had its bats silenced in a 9-0 loss to Class 3A No. 4 Mid-Prairie in Kalona on Friday.

Juniors Kelsey Townsend, Payge Edwards and Kaitlyn Wilkie had one hit each to sum up the Mustangs’ offense for the day. Mid-Prairie scored once in the first inning, twice in the fifth and three times in each of the fourth and sixth to reach its decisive nine runs. Edwards took the loss from the circle, giving up six earned runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts.

The Mustangs finish the year with a record of 19-14 overall and 13-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference. Under first-year coach Dave Donahue, that conference record was good enough to earn a share of the conference title with Jefferson-Scranton.
