Dollars for Scholars golf event to raise money in memory of Baxter teenager
The family of a Baxter teen who died in December 2010 is hosting a second annual fundraiser to generate scholarships in the boy’s honor.
The Jake Moorman Dollars for Scholars Memorial Event will be at Twin Anchors Golf Course on US Highway 30 in Colo on July 28. Before his death at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, the 17-year-old junior at Baxter High School was attending construction trades at DMACC’s Newton Campus. His parents, Kendall and Natalie Moorman, and his brother, Ben Moorman, have awarded $9,500 in scholarships through the Baxter Dollars for Scholars program in Jake’s memory. Last year’s golf outing raised funds for five $500 scholarships.
This year’s charity event will feature three flight times for golfing, a silent auction by numerous sponsors, food and drink sales, live entertainment from Ryne Doughtry from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. and Hot Tamale & The Red Hots band, T-shirts and other items for sale and a fireworks display at dusk.
