PCM softball advances with 12-4 victory Tuesday

The Prairie City-Monroe softball team will move on to the next round of Class 3A postseason action after a 12-4 victory over South Tama in Region 7 play in Monroe.

Led by a 3-for-5 effort by Kelsey Townsend, the Mustangs put up seven runs in the first inning and cruised to the victory after that. Abbi Gilson, Molly Vignovich and Makenna Van Veen each contributed two hits, while senior Payge Edwards earned the win from the circle by giving up 10 hits and four runs in a complete game effort.

The Mustangs will continue their postseason on Friday when they travel to Kalona to take on Class 3A No. 4 Mid-Prairie at 7 p.m.
