Jasper County Fair will be blend of old and new

This year’s version of the Jasper County Fair, scheduled for July 20 through 26, is shaping up to be a “Treasure Chest of Our County’s Best.” Rhonda Guy, Open Class coordinator for the county fair, said this year will bring several new items to the fair, in addition to the old favorite events.

“It’s going to be a blend of old and new. That’s what we’ve got this year,” Guy said. “We have seven new members on the Agricultural Society Board of Directors this year, and they are bringing a lot to the table.”

New events this year include a tallest corn stalk contest, rural family living displays and a dodgeball tournament scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 25. A volleyball tourney will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22. Look for a horseshoe pitching contest Tuesday in the pavilion. A movie night has been added for 9 p.m. Thursday, July 26.
