• Joshua D. Fifer, 28, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended at 8:54 p.m. June 28 when police stopped his vehicle after recognizing the passenger as a witness in an unrelated case. According to a police report, Fifer’s vehicle was stopped in the Key Co-op. parking lot on Highway 14 North in Newton. Police said Fifer’s Iowa Department of Transportation record showed his license to be invalid. Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies also were present to interview the passenger, but no charges were filed, and no arrests were made. Fifer was released to appear in court.
