On Friday, June 1, residents of Park Centre in Newton and Hearthstone in Pella laced up their walking shoes to put the motto of this year’s National Senior Health and Fitness Day in action. More than 45 residents and WesleyLife team members participated in a wellness event at the walking trails at Lake Red Rock.

The event kicked off with a brief welcome message by Natasha Jansen, WesleyLife wellness director, followed by group stretching before hitting the trails for up to a two mile walk. After the walk concluded, the group socialized while eating a healthy lunch.

“We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience each day in ways that are positive, healthy and fulfilling,” Jansen said. “Our annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day event is just one example of how we put our beliefs into action.”

It is estimated more than 100,000 older adults participated in activities at more than 1,000 locations throughout the U.S. as part of the 19th annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day. The common goal for the day is to help keep older Americans healthy and fit.

Although the event is on the last Wednesday in May, WesleyLife communities participate in the event as scheduling for community resources allows. The 2013 event will be on May 29.
