‘Long live the republic’ and defend rights
To the Editor,
July 4, 1776, was the birth of the U.S.A. with liberty and justice for all. Every year we celebrate this glorious day with much fanfare, as well we should. Yet, in light of the times, maybe our celebrations are becoming somewhat vain and empty. We profess to love liberty and our way of life, yet we tolerate politicians who try to take these things away from us and allow many of them to be reelected repeatedly. Why?
In 1941, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor awakened a “sleeping giant.” That giant was the American people who rose to defeat a threat to our nation and way of life. America is a constitutional republic in which we the people are the employer and the government is the employee. We do not have to tolerate the abuse of power by elitists. We can put an end to their tyranny. We can put the government in their place and protect our rights by doing so at the ballot box.
