Area veterans will headline annual Fourth of July parade

This year’s Fourth of July celebration promises to feature something sure to stir patriotism in everyone’s heart. All active duty and honorably discharged veterans are urged to march behind the colors at the start of the Fourth of July parade this year. The event is being coordinated by the Newton American Legion Post 111.

Fourth of July events in Newton will kick off at 7 a.m. with the annual pancake breakfast at the Masonic Lodge at 208 First Ave. W. Newton Kiwanis also will be serving Domino’s Breakfast, and the Jasper County Animal Rescue League will be selling donuts and coffee on the courthouse square, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The annual parade will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the theme this year of “America The Beautiful.” The parade will line up at the DMACC parking lot and move east down First Avenue to Fourth Street East, turn north for a block and then turn west and back to DMACC on North Second Avenue East.
