Newton Municipal Band to perform following Independence Day parade

The Newton Municipal Band will present its third concert of the season on the Jasper County Courthouse lawn following the Fourth of July parade in Newton.

Making his debut with the band will be the new Newton Senior High School band director Jim Beerends, who will play trumpet. The band will play a variety of marches and other tunes guaranteed to get toes tapping. A Dixieland combo will be featured in the piece “Dixieland, Front and Center.” Combo members include Jim Beerends on trumpet, Deb Stoulil on clarinet, Keith Laube on tenor sax, Charlie Clements on trombone, Katie Pline on percussion and Josh Zieman on tuba.

The band will pay tribute to all five branches of the military service with the piece “Armed Forces Salute.” The complete program, beginning with the “Star Spangled Banner,” will be chosen from the following numbers: “Brighton Beach Concert March,” “La Hora Pan Americana Overture,” “United Nations March,” “Dixieland Front and Center,” “Pentland Hills,” “Armed Forces Salute,” “The Cowboys Concert March” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
