Newton tops Grinnell 12-3 to end LHC season

GRINNELL — After a sluggish loss to Oskaloosa on Wednesday, the Newton softball team was looking to do two things at Grinnell on Thursday: have a good offensive night and get a momentum-building win.

It took care of business, accomplishing both as it cruised 12-3 over the downtrodden Tigers on a hot and muggy evening.

The Cardinals churned out 15 hits and gave up only four, improving to 17-10 overall and ending their Little Hawkeye Conference season at 8-4, clinching at least third place in the final standings.
