Work continues along Bike and Hike trail
A Newton Public Works crew installed a new corrugated pipe along the Hike and Bike Trail near the Newton Senior High School Wednesday.
Public Works Director Keith Laube said the new pipe is four feet in diameter and replaces an old 12-inch diameter pipe. The city had noticed extensive erosion along that portion of the trail across Sievers Creek following the heavy rains of 2010.
“Now is a good time to do the work since the creek is not flowing much now,” Laube said.
