Owls, toads and alligators, oh my!
Lauren, a Blank Park Zoo education specialist, visited the Newton Public Library on Tuesday as part of the library’s summer reading program “Dream Big, Read.” She is pictured with an adult eastern screech owl named Pigwidgeon after Ron Weasley’s owl in the “Harry Potter” series of books. The zoo also showed children a ferret, a cane toad and an American alligator. The summer reading program runs through Aug. 3. For more information, visit the library’s website at www.newton.lib.ia.us. See another photo from the event on page 2A.
