Cards can’t come back vs. Osky, fall 8-3

The Newton softball team found itself in a hole before Wednesday night’s game with Oskaloosa even started.

The game was a continuation of one that began on June 15 and was rained out in the second inning. The Cardinals led 3-0 after the first inning before the Indians scored six runs in the bottom of the second — five of them unearned.

Newton apparently forgot to bring a shovel to get out of that hole as the Cardinals’ offense couldn’t spark a comeback against Osky, which won 8-3 in a showdown of teams that were tied for second in the Little Hawkeye Conference standings.
