Square foot community garden program set for Saturday

A series of programs on square foot community gardening will be offered 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday as well as July 28, Aug. 25 and Sept. 22 at the Newton Community Garden site, located across from the County Annex Building at 115 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton.

This unique gardening approach is designed for small, urban landscapes and is a proven method for producing high quantities in limited spaces. The square foot gardening method is easy, fun, efficient and appropriate for gardeners of all ages and skill levels. The programs are free and open to all.

Anyone interested in acquiring space within the community garden may contact Chrissy Rea at (641) 792-9780 to reserve a location. Available space is limited and will be allotted on a first-come first-served basis. After reserving a space, interested parties will need to purchase lumber to construct their own 4-by-4 foot raised bed. No other charges will be assessed.
