Newton mayor announces resignation set for Sept. 30

Having accepted the position as director of the Jasper County Economic Development Corporation, Newton Mayor Chaz Allen announced today that will leave his post as city leader on Sept. 30.

Allen stated his intentions at this morning's Jasper County Board of Supervisors meeting and was introduced by current JEDCO director Craig Hamilton. Allen will officially start as director after Hamilton's last day this Friday.

Allen initially stated that he planned a six-month "transition" away from the mayor's post June 7 when the JEDCO board announced that Allen had formally accepted the position.
