Karam, Guerrieri pick up wins at Iowa Speedway

One was shortened by rain and one was postponed until hours after its original start time, but two more races spawned two more champions at Iowa Speedway over the weekend.

In Saturday’s opening race, Sage Karam completed a two-peat at Iowa Speedway in the shortened Star Mazda Championship, while Esteban Guerrieri won the Indy Lights Sukup 100 nightcap, which took place after the completion of the Iowa Corn Indy 250.

The win was actually the third in a row in Newton for Karam, as he also won a US F2000 event at Iowa Speedway in 2010. Connor De Phillipi, who finished third, moved into first place in the series’ standings for his efforts after points leader Jack Hawksworth was knocked out of contention on lap 78 and the 91-lap event. Martin Scuncio took second.
