Mustangs beat Tigerhawks 8-5 in top-heavy game

COLFAX — If one would’ve come late to Thursday’s matchup between county and conference foes Colfax-Mingo and Prairie-City Monroe, they would’ve missed nearly all of the action.

The Mustangs scored eight runs by the top of the second inning before the Tigerhawks mounted a comeback in the bottom half, but both teams’ bats fell silent after that and PCM held on for an 8-5 road victory.

Fans in attendance probably thought the first inning had enough scoring as the Mustangs (13-8, 9-3 Heart of Iowa Conference) put two runs on the board right away, but the Tigerhawks immediately reduced the deficit to one with a run in the bottom of the first. PCM then blew up for six runs in the top of the second inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead and pick up some momentum.
