• Travis D. Grider, 23, of Sheldon was charged with driving while license revoked after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of First Avenue and First Street in Newton Tuesday. According to a police report, Grider’s vehicle struck another vehicle driven by 41-year-old Jacqueline Rothfus of Pleasantville at 10:37 p.m. Investigators said that Rothfus stopped at a yellow-flashing light while westbound on First Avenue, and proceeded to turn left when the two vehicles struck in the intersection. Grider’s licenses was found to be under suspension, according to Iowa Department of Transportation records. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, and Grider was released to appear in court.
• Christopher Matis, 38, of California was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance at 11:41 a.m. Saturday when police found Valium and hydrocodone in the subject’s car after a traffic stop. According to a police report, Matis was observed speeding in the 200 block of Iowa Speedway Drive. Authorities said that a law enforcement database also revealed that the subject’s California driver’s license is suspended. The pills were reportedly found in a container, and the hydrocodone was a form mixed with Tylenol. Police said Matis had no prescription for these pills, and he was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
