Municipal band to feature trombone section, reading

The Newton Municipal Band will feature its trombone section and a special patriotic reading when it takes to the stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Maytag Bowl.

The trombone section includes band members Charlie Clements, Lowell Halfhill, Kate Schumann, Abby Zieman, Grant Nook and Don Perkins. They will perform “Slippery Gentlemen” by Harold L. Walters. The band’s master of ceremonies also will be featured in a number. Fred Chabot, retired brigadier general with the Iowa Air National Guard, will narrate the piece “Duty, Honor, Country” by MacArthur, Cook, and Walters.

The complete program for the evening is as follows: “The Star Spangled Banner,” “Hosts of Freedom March,” “The Iowa Band Law March,” “El Capeo,” “Eine Kleine Rockmusik” by Wolfbane Armadillo Mozart, “Duty, Honor, Country,” “Slippery Gentlemen” and selections from “The Music Man.” The band will be directed by Dan Stecker.
