Rail travelers to make a stop in Newton on Wednesday

It may be a bit reminiscent of days gone by on Wednesday, as hundreds of railway travelers disembark at the Rock Island Depot in Newton.

The National Railway Historical Society convention will be highlighting five days of rare mileage rail trips and the group will be making a lunch stop at the Rock Island Depot in Newton during its trip on Wednesday.

Linda Bacon, of the Newton Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, said she was partnering with Hy-Vee, Art A La Carte, the Newton Parks Department and others to make a memorable impression on the rail guests. The Jasper County Historical Museum will be displaying its steam engine across the street at the Meisner Center.
