Fly American flag with respect, honor

To the Editor,

Last Thursday was Flag Day, and many in the neighborhood had flags waving or the paper flags from the Newton Daily News displayed in their windows. However, the flag at Woodrow Wilson Elementary has been lower than half mast for more than three weeks. It appears that the flag is tangled on the pole. Over the last year I have gone to the school board to complain about some of the general maintenance of Woodrow Wilson and have also left a message about taking care of the flag. It appears that my concerns about the flag are falling on deaf ears.

Isn’t it strange that we can hire outside consultants to look at the fort at Emerson Hough and even form a committee to study the fort, and yet somehow we fall short of the simple task of taking care of the American Flag? I have had a number of concerns over the last two years concerning changes in the school system; however, this one just seems to be a lack of respect.
