Cards’ streak snapped by Ames in 5-2 loss

All it took was one bad inning to end the Cardinals’ eight-game winning streak.

Scoring all five of its runs in the top of the fourth inning, Ames was the one to put an end to it on Thursday night with a 5-2 non-conference win at Berg Middle School Field.

Coming off two straight shutout victories, Newton (9-6, 4-2 Little Hawkeye Conference) held the Little Cyclones (11-10) scoreless until the fourth. There, Ames came up with five of its seven hits to produce the five runs — four of them coming with two outs.
