Art A La Carte to celebrate Rock Island Depot’s 100th birthday

With hundreds of railway visitors expected Wednesday morning at the Rock Island Depot, now occupied by Art A La Carte, what better time to celebrate the depot’s anniversary with an open house?

Kathy Rickers at Art A La Carte said the company has occupied the depot at 101 N. Eighth Ave. E. since 1996, and only a few renovations have been made to the historic building.

“We’ve put down carpet to protect the original marble terrazzo floor, and visitors will want to see that,” Rickers said. “And the baggage room has been renovated. That’s been our biggest project. But we’ve tried hard to leave the building as it was.”
