Hessman strikes again to down Iowa Cubs

Oklahoma City, Okla. — For the second straight night, the last homer in a multi-homer game for Mike Hessman gave the Oklahoma City RedHawks (35-23) a one-run win over the Iowa Cubs Cubs (25-32) at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Monday night, Hessman hit his second home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the RedHawks to a 6-5 win. Hessman has five home runs in the last two games. The RedHawks have won seven straight games overall and 12 in a row at home. The Cubs have lost five straight games, matching their longest losing streak of the season.

The Cubs grabbed an early lead on an RBI single by Anthony Rizzo in the top of the first inning. The Cubs extended the lead to 2-0 on a solo home run by Ty Wright leading off in the fourth.

The RedHawks came back to take the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jimmy Paredes and Hessman hit solo homers off Cubs’ starter Chris Rusin. Angel Sanchez had the final of three straight singles to drive in Matt Downs with the last run.
